HARVEST GAMAY RELEASE PARTY OCT 14TH

Looking for a fun and exciting way to spend your weekend? Look no further than our

Seasonal Harvest (& Gamay Release) Party on Saturday, October 14th from 1pm to 7pm!

Join us for the unveiling of our brand spanking new 2022 Love & Squalor Gamay Noir, along with an assortment of past-vintage library Gamays and other rare wines. The 2021 Gamay Noir got a great reception in the press and we are sure this one will, too. This crowd favorite usually goes to our Wine Club first, so this is a sneaky chance to get in on it early (and before it inevitably sells out)

In addition to the fantastic wine selection, we'll be featuring MINNOW PDX , a newish chef collective specializing in local, delicious, fresh, and seasonal fare. You won't want to miss out on this tasty experience. Plates will be available for purchase.

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month (and Angie kicking the big C this year, yay!) we'll be donating a portion of the day's proceeds to the cause. Come out and show your support while enjoying great food, wine and friends.

We're all about keeping it fun around here, so bring along your furry friends for the patio, your kids, and even your bikes! It has been a crazy harvest and we miss seeing your faces, so come join the festivities. You might even be able to jump in on the harvest – we hope to see you there!

THE TASTING ROOM AND WINERY ARE AT 3201 SE 50TH AVE. PORTLAND OREGON

NEW RELEASE:A FRAYED KNOT

Sometimes the best things come as a result of an accident. When your hand is forced in an unfamiliar direction, you can discover paths and solutions you never knew you liked. That is how this wine came to be. I first made it by sort of mistake in 2013 when a vineyard owner gifted us a half ton of Gewurztraminer - we have been refining the accidents that made this wine special ever since. Sometimes a knot that frayed is still the best (and least afraid) answer to a complicated question.

The 2021 "A Frayed Knot" Rosé of Gewürztraminer gets its orangey color, and savory characteristics, from the skins. Unlike our Rosé of Pinot Noir which goes directly from the vineyard into the press, these Alsatian-style grapes spend up to two weeks cold soaking in their own juice, imparting a rosy color and some light texture. Then the whole lot goes into the press and undergoes a gentle fermentation in old barrels. The resulting wine is a dry mouthful of delicious tropical and stone fruits with a bit of spice and a wink of bitters. It's a truly unique bottling and always goes quickly.

Only 75 cases were produced, so if you want more later, well, I'm afraid not.

GARAGELAND ROSÉ OF PINOT NOIR 2021

For those of you who have been following along, you know that Garageland is the cousin of our Love & Squalor line of fine wines. It is named in homage to all of the crafters and makers who toil over their passions behind non-descript roll-up doors in warehouse districts around the globe. Just like we do here at Portland Wine Company.

Garageland expanded into the world of rosé with this pale pink wine crafted from two youthful vineyard sites in the Willamette Valley. The Pinot noir was direct-pressed – tossed stem-and-all into our grape press – and gently squeezed. It was then fermented in tank to retain purity of fruit flavors and the crispness we all want from our summer quaffer. This year we’ve added a screw cap closure for convenience when you are at the beach or on the mountain.

Like all of our bottlings, this is a limited-production wine. We should have enough to get through the summer, but it will be fleeting. We will be offering it on tap from the cask at the tasting room. If you like pink wines as much as we do, keep your eyes open for forthcoming emails about our next vintage of “A Frayed Knot” Rosé of Gewürztraminer, the pink Rumble Can, and the top-secret grape varietal in the next Pet Matt Rosé.

NEWLY RELEASED RESERVE

bottle of Pinot Noir Reserve 2017

We are excited to release the 2017 Reserve Pinot Noir!

This wine is made out of my favorite barrels from the vintage. I love the blending process and liken it to preparing a perfectly balanced plate for dinner guests. The selection and blending process is quite rigorous because I like it that way.

This is a reserve wine, whatever that means, but the style is not the typical – bold and oaky - we have been trained to expect from the designation. These chosen barrels are the ones that show subtle promise when young, but are like a rider on the horizon and we may have to wait a while before the true shape of the wine comes into focus. I hold the wine back from release until I feel it is starting to open, but I am sure we could all wait longer to drink it.

Only 50 cases were produced and it's already going fast.

Single Vineyard New Releases

For those of you who have been paying attention, know that I have never ever released a single vineyard bottling (with one obscure exception). Well, never say never. We are very proud to introduce our brand new Single Vineyard lineup.

2014 Wings of Desire Cuddihy Vineyard Field Blend
This bottling is sourced from the old experimental block at Richard Cuddihy’s eponymous Yamhill vineyard. A co-fermented blend of 8 different grape types all planted next to each other in 1971. This barrel-aged richer styled white is a testament to the hardscrabble early days of Oregon viticulture and to magical accidents. 60 cases produced $30

2014 Sunnyside Vineyard Riesling
This Riesling is a citrusy, apple-y, stone-y and herbal dry Riesling sourced from my favorite Willamette Valley site for the varietal. If you are already a fan of my Riesling, this should deepen your appreciation. If you’re not quite sure, then this is the one to win you over. 25 cases produced $48

2014 Temperance Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir
This wine is bolder than my usual Pinots, it nonetheless has a signature grace typical of this storied Eola-Amity vineyard. I have been fortunate to work with Temperance Hill Vineyard fruit since 2007. To cut your teeth on an Oregon “Grand Cru” is a great way to learn winemaking. There are so many respected winemakers who make amazing wines from Temperance, I guess it’s time to throw my hat into the ring. 25 cases $58.

2014 Sunny Mountain Vineyard Pinot Noir
Not to be confused with the Sunnyside Vineyard from above of course, I have been seeking fruit from this Southern Willamette site ever since my assistant winemaker days at Brooks. We had some in the fermentation hall there, and it was always my favorite to do punchdowns on. The exotic aromatics of spice and leather were and are seductive and the wine in barrel has power and grip like no other site I’ve had the pleasure to work with. 25 cases $58

These wines are very limited and may or may not ever be bottled again. So enjoy them while they are around. And to celebrate their release with us - enjoy them at a discount . . .
