Share & Pair - April 17-20 Featuring 2016 Riesling Reserve

"Share & Pair Sundays" is a campaign encouraging people to gather on Sundays to enjoy wine, food, and friends. At Portland Wine Company, we’re proud to participate in this initiative by pairing wine, food, and some of our favorite things to do in our beautiful city!

Come in Thursday-Sunday until JUNE to enjoy a ½ glass of our featured wine and a snack for just $12. We’ll also have weekly food specials. In the spirit of “Share & Pair,” bring a friend or two (or three!).

Share & Pair for Thursday, April 17 - Sunday, April 20

The Wine: 2016 Riesling Reserve

The Love & Squalor 2016 Riesling Reserve is currently one of our favorites because of the delightful way this wine has aged in the bottle, revealing notes of stone fruits and honey. A unique blend of our oldest Riesling vineyards fermented using only wild yeast, this Riesling perfectly encapsulates the delicious results of winemaker Matt Berson’s minimal intervention style.

Paired Snack: Manchego + Quince Paste

Manchego and membrillo (quince paste) are a classic Spanish pairing—so iconic it's nicknamed Romeo y Julieta—and when teamed up with our 2016 Riesling Reserve, it’s pure poetry. The nutty, slightly sweet, and savory cheese meets the floral brightness of quince paste, while the wine’s vibrant acidity and stone fruit notes lift and enhance every element. Together, they create a perfectly balanced bite that highlights the best qualities of all three.

Winery Bar Food Special: Bacon-Wrapped Dates with Blue Cheese

Blue cheese skeptics — we created this pairing with you in mind! The dates provide deep, concentrated sweetness, while the salty (but mild) blue cheese adds a slight funk, and the bacon provides smoky, umami richness. With our Riesling Reserve, it’s a sweet, salty, funky, smoky match made in heaven.

A Pairing to Share at Home: Pad Thai

Riesling shows its versatility with Pad Thai’s complex sweet-sour-spiciness. The wine’s pronounced acidity tames the dish’s sweetness while complementing its lime and tamarind tanginess.

Here are a couple of our favorites to try:

  • Prawn / Shrimp Pad Thai — If you want a very authentic Pad Thai, try this one from Spice I Am Thai restaurant in Sydney, Australia.

  • Pad Thai — This one is a bit less authentic, but it won’t require a trip to an Asian market.

  • Easy Homemade Pad Thai — Finally, this one is very easy and only takes about 30 minutes.

Activity Pairing: Walk the stairs at Mount Tabor

There are 293 stairs to the summit of Mount Tabor from the entrance at SE Yamhill and SE 69th Street, which means your exercise is done for the day and also that you deserve a treat! When you come back down, reward yourself with a martini and oysters at Katy Jane’s, an oyster bar in the Coquine Market every Tuesday-Saturday from 5-8pm. Or visit Pacific Seafood on Powell to pick up the shrimp for your Pad Thai dinner before swinging by Portland Wine Company to grab a bottle (or 2) of Riesling Reserve.

APRIL 12th Spin the Bottle: Amy Wesselman of Westrey Wine Company

Our Spin the Bottle series is back, and this time, we’re thrilled to welcome Amy Wesselman of Westrey Wine Company to Portland Wine Co.! If you love beautifully balanced, terroir-driven wines and geeking out about winemaking, this is an event you won’t want to miss.

From Burgundy to the Willamette Valley

Amy and partner David Autrey were lucky enough to cut their teeth interning for some of the best winemakers in Burgundy before returning to Oregon. Back home, they continued their winemaking journey under industry legends like Terry Casteel (Bethel Heights), John Paul (Cameron), Lynn Penner-Ash (Rex Hill), and David Lett (The Eyrie Vineyards). From these mentors, they learned that balance and structure are key—from juice to barrel to bottle—and that minimal intervention allows the truest expression of terroir. In 1993, Amy and David launched Westrey Wine Company, staying true to this philosophy ever since.

An AFTERNOON with a Trailblazer

Join us Saturday, April 12th, from 2-6pm, as Amy pours a selection of Westrey’s elegant, sustainable wines and shares their winemaking journey. Spin the Bottle is all about great wine, great conversation, and a relaxed, intimate setting—the perfect way to experience Westrey’s classics while getting a behind-the-scenes look at their craft.

📅 Date: Saturday, April 12th, 2-6pm
📍 Location: Portland Wine Co.
🍷 Winemaker: Amy Wesselman, Westrey Wine Company

Mark your calendar, bring some friends, and let’s raise a glass to Oregon wine! 🍷✨

Share & Pair - April 10-13 Featuring 2022 Willamette Valley Gamay Noir

"Share & Pair Sundays" is a campaign encouraging people to gather on Sundays to enjoy wine, food, and friends. At Portland Wine Company, we’re proud to participate in this initiative by pairing wine, food, and some of our favorite things to do in our beautiful city!

Come in Thursday-Sunday until JUNE to enjoy a ½ glass of our featured wine and a snack for just $12. We’ll also have weekly food specials. In the spirit of “Share & Pair,” bring a friend or two (or three!).

Share & Pair for Thursday, April 10 - Sunday, April 13

The Wine: 2022 Gamay Noir

The Love & Squalor 2022 Willamette Valley Gamay Noir is a fan favorite in the winery bar because of its plush fruit flavors and secondary earthy tones. It received a whopping 95 points from Wine Enthusiast AND it was named an Editors’ Choice. The critic wrote:

“Its Tootsie Roll and bergamot aromas remind me of the Terry’s Chocolate Orange I’d get in my stocking as a kid. Cranberry-orange and raspberry pastille flavors meld with green tea and thyme notes.”

It also got 93 points from James Suckling, as well as 93 points and Critics Choice from Northwest Wine Report and 91 points from Paul Gregutt. So, we’re not the only ones who think it’s delicious!

Paired Snack: Duck Mousse Pâté with Cherry Gelée

Gamay Noir proves itself a brilliant companion to duck mousse pâté with dark cherry gelée. The wine's vibrant acidity and juicy red fruit character masterfully cut through the rich creaminess of the pâté, refreshing the palate between each indulgent bite. What makes this pairing sing is the that the cherry gelée echoes Gamay's own tart cherry and cranberry notes, while at the same time, Gamay's lean, fresh character provides a pleasurable contrast with the pâté's luxurious texture.

Winery Bar Food Special: Spanakopita

Spanakopita is a surprisingly delicious vegetarian pairing for our Gamay Noir. The wine’s acidity refreshes your palate between bites of rich feta cheese and buttery pastry, while the vibrant red fruit flavors offer a pleasant counterpoint to the savoriness of the dish.

A Pairing to Share at Home: Spice-Crusted Salmon

This pairing showcases Gamay Noir's remarkable ability to bridge the gap between traditional white and red wine territory, offering enough body for the robust spices while maintaining the elegance needed for seafood.

Here are a couple of our favorites to try:

  • Four-Spice Salmon — Mark Bittman’s four-spice salmon has 5 stars with almost 4,000 reviews for good reason: it’s fast, easy, and delicious.

  • Blackened Salmon Fillets — For an extra kick, try this almost-as-quick-and-easy recipe that uses a Cajun spice mix.

Activity Pairing: SEE the new roof at PDX and have a meal at the Country cat

You don’t have to be flying anywhere to enjoy the airport. The new roof — featuring 3.5 million board feet of local, sustainably sourced timber — is worth a trip all on its own! While you’re there, enjoy a meal at The Country Cat, legendary for its skillet-fried chicken. The restaurant is located outside of security so it’s open to all! Plus, they serve our wine by the bottle, so you’re guaranteed the perfect accompaniment for your meal.

Share & Pair - April 3-6 Featuring Walks on Gilded Splinters

"Share & Pair Sundays" is a campaign encouraging people to gather on Sundays to enjoy wine, food, and friends. At Portland Wine Company, we’re proud to participate in this initiative by pairing wine, food, and some of our favorite things to do in our beautiful city!

Come in Thursday-Sunday until JUNE to enjoy a ½ glass of our featured wine and a snack for just $12. We’ll also have weekly food specials. In the spirit of “Share & Pair,” bring a friend or two (or three!).

Share & Pair for Thursday, April 3 - Sunday, April 6

The Wine: 2023 Walks on Gilded Splinters

Love & Squalor 2023 Walks on Gilded Splinters skin-contact Pinot Gris gets its deep dark color from fermenting the white grapes on its skins like a red wine, resulting in a bottle of beautiful color and texture. What’s up with the name, you ask? This wine was inspired by the classic swamp boogie song “I Walk on Gilded Splinters” by Dr. John. Take a listen here.

Paired Snack: Pintxos

Pintxos — bite-sized snacks from northern Spain’s Basque region — are designed specifically for pairing with drinks. With our skin-contact Pinot Gris, pintxos are the epitome of thoughtful wine and food pairing in their most joyful form!

Winery Bar Food Special: Tinned Fish

Our orange wine is an ideal counterpart to tinned fish. The extended skin contact that gives it its vibrant color also helps develop tannic structure that complements the concentrated umami flavors in the fish, while the acid cleanses your palate between bites.

A Pairing to Share at Home: Coconut Chicken Curry

Curries are notoriously difficult to pair because of their strong flavors that many wines just can’t stand up to. Walks on Gilded Splinters has a robust structure and pronounced aromatics that make it one of the few wines that can perfectly match your favorite curry. This unexpected pairing demonstrates orange wine's unique versatility with bold, spice-driven cuisine.

Here are a couple of our favorites to try:

Activity Pairing: Rent a Hot Tub Boat and float on the willamette, Damn it!

Even when it’s cold outside (where are you, spring?), you can enjoy a ride on the Willamette River in a hot tub boat! Grab 5 of your closest friends and head over to Yacht Tub Club to rent your own personal floating spa for a couple of hours.

Share & Pair - March 27-30 Featuring SuperGlou

"Share & Pair Sundays" is a campaign encouraging people to gather on Sundays to enjoy wine, food, and friends. At Portland Wine Company, we’re proud to participate in this initiative by pairing wine, food, and some of our favorite things to do in our beautiful city!

Come in Thursday-Sunday from March 23 - May 25 to enjoy a ½ glass of our featured wine and a snack for just $12. We’ll also have weekly food specials. In the spirit of “Share & Pair,” bring a friend or two (or three!).

Share & Pair for Thursday, March 27 - Sunday, March 30

The Wine: 2023 SuperGlou

SUPERGLOU, our newest “glou glou” (means chuggable in French). Made for ultimate sipping pleasure, this juicy and vibrant wine is a mix of Trousseau, Gamay Noir, Dolcetto, and Pinot Gris. Think bright, fresh, and totally irresistible—a party in a glass!

Paired Snack: Calabrese Salami

Rich, spice-infused salumi creates the perfect counterpoint to our bright, fruit-forward, eminently chuggable chilled red.

Winery Bar Food Special: Pão de Queijo (Brazilian Cheese Breads)

These small, puffy cheese breads perfectly complement the refreshing nature of our 2023 SuperGlou. Pão de Queijo offer a delightful contrast of textures—crisp exterior giving way to a chewy, elastic center—and the subtle saltiness of the cheese harmonizes beautifully with the fruit-forward character of the wine.

A Pairing to Share at Home: Meat and Veggie Skewers on the Grill

The char and caramelization from grilling creates magic when paired with our chilled red blend. The SuperGlou has enough structure to stand up to grilled meats without overwhelming more delicate vegetables.

Here are a few fun ideas for your next grilling adventure:

Activity Pairing: Talk to the Ducks and Play Frisbee at Laurelhurst Park

In 1919, the 32-acre Laurelhurst Park was recognized by the Pacific Coast Parks Association as the most beautiful park on the west coast. We couldn’t agree more! It’s our favorite place for a picnic on a nice day…or just a stroll on any day.

The park has many different areas – paths, sports courts, an off-leash dog spot, not to mention so many types of trees – but what we love most is talking to the ducks in Laurelhurst Park Pond. So grab the fam, the dog, and a frisbee and head to this little piece of heaven in SE Portland!

Share & Pair - March 20-23 Featuring Garageland Pinot Noir

"Share & Pair Sundays" is a campaign encouraging people to gather on Sundays to enjoy wine, food, and friends. At Portland Wine Company, we’re proud to participate in this initiative by pairing wine, food, and some of our favorite things to do in our beautiful city!

Come in Thursday-Sunday from March 23 - May 25 to enjoy a ½ glass of our featured wine and a snack for just $12. We’ll also have weekly food specials. In the spirit of “Share & Pair,” bring a friend or two (or three!).

Share & Pair for Thursday, March 20 - Sunday, March 23

The Wine: 2023 Garageland Pinot Noir

The Garageland Pinot Noir is a multi-vineyard, multi-appellation blend that embodies the raw, untamed spirit of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The name—shamelessly stolen from The Clash—is an homage to all the artisans who toil away behind nondescript roll-up doors, from musicians and painters to vintners and food makers. Like all of our wines, this bottling reflects winemaker Matt Berson’s hands-off winemaking style, drawing attention to the vibrant delicacy, heady aromatics, and natural acidity that define a well-balanced wine. If you loved the 2022 Garageland (91 points from Wine Enthusiast!), you’re in for another round of terroir-driven goodness.

For this bottling, we’re also excited to be part of ReVino, an innovative program bringing refillable, reusable wine bottles to the Oregon wine scene. As one of the participating wineries, we’re proud to take a step toward sustainability—because great wine should be enjoyed now and leave a lighter footprint for the future.

Paired Snack: Gruyere with Dried Fruits

The nutty richness of Gruyere cheese complements the wine’s earthy undertones, while the dried fruits echo our easy-drinking Garageland Pinot Noir’s cherry and cranberry notes.

Winery Bar Food Special: Stuffed Mushrooms

Oregon Pinot Noir and mushrooms are both known for their delightful umami and forest floor flavors. Stuffed mushrooms amplify Pinot’s savory side while the wine’s brightness makes the mushrooms sing (The Clash songs, of course).

A Pairing to Share at Home: Pizza

The Garageland Pinot Noir is the ultimate Tuesday night pizza wine. Its moderate tannins and bright acidity temper the richness of the cheese and the sauce, while the fruit notes provide a contrast to savory toppings.

Of course, Portland has an abundance of excellent pizza joints, but if you want to make your own at home, here are our recommendations:

  • For the plan-ahead chef: Ken Forkish’s same day pizza dough. You do need to start this one in the morning, but it’s worth it! If you want to get really nerdy about it, check out these 10 videos where Forkish demonstrates every step of making the perfect Neapolitan pizza!

  • For the last-minute chef: Quick Beer Crust Pizza. Want a faster pizza? Give it a beer! This is our go-to pizza crust for those days when you don’t plan ahead.

  • Toppings! We haven’t yet met a pizza that our Garageland Pinot Noir doesn’t pair well with, but here are a few of our favorites:

    • Margherita pizza – Tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil, done!

    • Mushrooms, gruyere, and arugula – Savory umami goodness

    • Pepperoni – A classic, elevated by the fruity, spicy notes in the wine

Activity Pairing: Go to a show at Mississippi Studios

Portland Wine Company ❤️ Mississippi Studios (3939 N Mississippi Ave, Portland, OR) in a big way! This legendary venue in NE PDX is a shrine to live music, and what better way to fuel your rock ‘n’ roll soul than with a glass of Garageland Pinot Noir? Our loud, juicy, and rebellious wine was practically made for nights filled with guitar riffs and drum solos. And the best part? You can get it on tap at Mississippi Studios—because great music deserves great wine, without the fuss.

Soups & Sips: 3 Delicious Soup and Wine Pairings to Elevate Your Bowl Game

Brrr, it’s cold! With the night time temperatures in Portland below freezing, it’s the perfect time to cozy up with a hot bowl of soup and a perfectly paired glass of wine.

Here are three soup and wine pairings that will warm you from the inside and might just make you grateful for the cold weather outside. Add a hunk of your favorite crusty bread and transform a simple weeknight supper into a memorable dining experience!

Thai Coconut Soup + Love & Squalor 2021 Willamette Valley Dry Riesling

The bright acidity and minerality of our 2021 Willamette Valley Dry Riesling creates a perfect harmony with creamy Thai coconut soup. The wine’s acid cuts through the richness of the coconut milk and the green apple and citrus flavors complement the soup’s ginger and lemongrass and also balance the chili heat.

Roasted Root Vegetable Soup + Love & Squalor 2019 Pinot Noir Temperance Hill Vineyard

Winter root vegetables – in this case parsnips, rutabagas, turnips, carrots, and sweet potatoes – take on a deep caramelized sweetness when roasted, making it the ideal partner for our 2019 Pinot Noir from Temperance Hill Vineyard. The wine’s bright black cherry flavors provide a gorgeous counterpoint to the vegetables’ sweetness, while the forest floor notes in the wine echo the soup’s savoriness.

Chicken Pot-au-Feu + Love & Squalor 2022 Willamette Valley Gamay Noir

Our 2022 Willamette Valley Gamay Noir pairs perfectly with this not-quite-traditional version of the classic French chicken and vegetable soup. This wine has been a fan favorite since its release because of the perfect balance of juicy red fruit, dried herbs, and soft tannins. The wine’s lightness complements the delicate chicken and vegetable flavors without overwhelming them.
